Hold time, together with temperature and pressure, is one of three core parameters of polymer diffusion welding. It follows the heating & heat preservation stage and dominates atomic diffusion, joint performance and equipment wear. Reasonable duration is critical.

Core Principle of Hold Time

Hold time must coordinate with temperature and pressure: higher temperature / thicker workpieces require longer hold time. Proper pressure matched with appropriate hold time maximizes atomic diffusion efficiency.

Harm of Insufficient Hold Time

1.Low joint tensile strength, easy cracking & separation under load.

2.Micropores and gaps form at welding interface, reducing sealing and electrical conductivity.

3.Severe shrinkage deformation, dimensional tolerance out of range.

4.Mass cold joints and incomplete penetration, drastically raising rework rate.

Harm of Excessively Long Hold Time

1.Severe workpiece deformation and high scrap rate.

2.Joint embrittlement, prone to brittle fracture.

3.Equipment runs under continuous heavy load, accelerating core component wear.

4.Lower welding speed and increased production cost.

5.Aggravated oxidation on welding surface, degraded joint quality.
