What Weld-Seam Defects Are Caused by Improper Roller Pressure Adjustment in Motorcycle Fuel-Tank Roll Seam Welding with a Medium-Frequency Roll Seam Welder?

Medium-frequency roll seam welding of motorcycle fuel tanks relies on the roller to continuously press the workpiece tightly, combined with continuous current, to form a sealed weld seam. Excessive roller pressure, insufficient pressure, and unbalanced pressure on the two sides all produce various weld-seam defects.

I Defects Caused by Insufficient Roller Pressure

1.The sheet lap surfaces cannot be fully pressed together, tiny gaps remain, contact resistance is unstable, and the weld seam shows intermittent cold joints and non-fusion.

2.Local heat concentrates during welding, producing arcing and spatter, and the weld seam develops porosity.

3.Slipping occurs between the roller and the sheet, the weld-seam trajectory runs off, and the weld-seam width is uneven.

II Defects Caused by Excessive Roller Pressure

1.Thin-walled sheet is over-squeezed, and weld-seam indentations are overly deep.

2.The weld-seam area collapses, and the fuel-tank shell develops dents and deformation.

3.The roller bears excessive load, wear speed accelerates, and the roller end face easily deforms.

III Defects Caused by Unbalanced Pressure of the Two-Side Rollers

1.The weld seam has one-side poor fusion: one side fuses fully while the other fuses insufficiently, showing single-side incomplete penetration.

2.The workpiece is subjected to skewed force, the weld-seam direction runs off, weld-seam forming is asymmetric, and indentation depth is uneven.

3.The weld seam is subjected to uneven force and easily cracks from the weak-fusion side.
