Solutions to medium frequency welding machine overheating [DCS24]

Jan 06,2024

Medium frequency welding machine is an excellent equipment member of resistance welding machine family. It works at high production efficiency. However, some problems may take place during the use, such as machine overheating, emergence of smoke, charred smell, etc. Then how to deal with this kind of situation?

Once the machine overheated problem, the first thing to do is to check, check the cause.

* Is the inlet water pressure, inlet water temperature and flow within the regular range?

* Is there a blockage in the water system?

* What is the insulation effect of the electrode holder of the welder?

* See if the thickness of the weld and its load-bearing effects have exceeded the standard.

In addition, some conditions as following will also cause the welder overheating. Pay attention to these situations when operating the welder, and deal with them in time.

Causes of welder overheating

Solutions

Low grid voltage. It occurs during peak electricity use in rural area.

Restore the network voltage to the rated value before application.

The cross-section of power supply input line is too small (high resistance, high voltage loss).

Configure power cord with sufficient cross-section according to the welder's rated input current.

Welding cable is too long or  section area is too small.

Increase the section area of the welding cable or reduce the length of the welding cable, usually not more than 15 meters.

There are paint or other dirt on the workpiece. The output cable of the welder has poor contact with the workpiece.

Remove the dirt in the weld joint so that the output cable contacts well with the workpiece.

Part of the current regulator got loose.

Fix and fasten the current regulator.

The surface of electrode head was seriously oxidized.

Trim and grind the electrodes, or replace them
